Rose opens up about injury

News: Chicago G Derrick Rose could miss his third straight game with a toe injury after not participating in the team’s morning shootaround Friday. Bulls coach Tom Thibodeau said it will be a game-time decision whether the league’s MVP plays Friday night against Cleveland, Rose has been sidelined with a sprained left big toe he first injured Jan. 10. “Knowing that right when it starts feeling good it can go right back to zero, I have to make the smart decision,” Rose told the Chicago Tribune. “When this injury happened, I aggravated it and I played on it sooner. It was real bad.”

Analysis: The Bulls will likely take a cautious approach with Rose, who is averaging 20.8 points and 8.7 assists. Rose hasn’t played since last weekend against Toronto. The 23-year-old has repeatedly characterized his current injury as more painful than his setback during the 2009-10 season, which he played through. “Injuries are going to happen. That’s why I always get treatment,” he said. “This is worse than my second season. That season, I just played through it but it wasn’t that bad.” It would be surprising if Rose plays on Friday so Fantasy owners should prepare to have healthier alternatives available. Continue to monitor his status heading into Fantasy Week 5 (Jan. 23-29) when the Bulls play four times.
